Charlotte Ann Stamper, the inspiration for "The Charlotte's Way Foundation."
A line from a poem, “The New Colossus,” by the nineteenth-century American poet Emma Lazarus. “The New Colossus,” describing the Statue of Liberty, appears on a plaque at the base of the statue. It ends with the statue herself speaking: |
|
Give me your tired, your poor, |
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, |
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. |
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: |
I lift my lamp beside the golden door. | |
Charlotte Ann Stamper was a Registered Nurse who passed away in 2006 due to complications from Lupus. Her giving ways to strangers, neighbors, or whoever was in need surpassed expectations of many in her community. The lives she saved in her community were too numerous to count. One of many events in her life, for example, on Easter Sunday she went to the extreme of climbing a train in her new easter outfit after seeing it hit an elderly couple's vehicle in order to get to them trying to save their lives. The train company even attempted to award her but she declined stating, "As a nurse, it was my job." That was the definitive answer of a healthcare provider...an RN. She would give the last dime she had to others and do without material things just to help those who could not feed their families, whose utilities were disconnected, or had no clothes for school, work, etc. That was her giving ways. Thus, the inspiration for her giving ways lead to "The Charlotte's Way Foundation." She was my mother and best friend, and I miss her daily. Before her death, I lost my only sibling a year before her. Such a tragedy. My brother, Kevin, who would have two quarters in his pocket, would go to a yard sale and would be so happy when he found something for that little change and would give it to someone else. That was his giving ways as well. Join me on this crusade by helping their memories and giving ways live on by donating or volunteering today via "The Charlotte's Way Foundation." Living in New Orleans, LA, Hurricane Katrina devastated our metropolitan area and have yet to make it back to way things used to be. So many still homeless, cannot feed themselves or their families nor have the proper clothing and utilities they need. Then Hurricane Gustav and Ike devasted areas in 2008 as well. People have seem to have forgotten the people here. The news reports are gone, but the devastation remains. Your heart will be filled with love and joy knowing you have helped someone feel a little better today. God Bless you all.
